Wanderer Weekly #35 – Himalayan Mountain Adventure

It’s week 35 of the wandering hippie journey by “Stevie Wander” exactly fifty years ago.  This week we find him spending time in the Vale of Kashmir in Himalayan India.  He spends another day in Srinagar living on a houseboat with a couple English fellows, but now it’s time to move on.  Stevie feels hassled and ripped-off by the local merchants.  The guys head to the mountains in nearby Pahalgam to pitch a riverside campsite for a week.  Stevie and Richard wish to visit the mystical Amarnath Cave, high up in the mountains, but the icy snow remaining in June limits their trek to Sheshnag Lake, two thirds of the way.  Come hear more about this once-in-a-lifetime adventure in the Kashmir, while on the Hippie Trail.

Stevie Wander

Co-author Steve Reifman celebrates the 50th anniversary of the ultimate hippy trail journey. His adventure, the inspiration for the book Wanderer co-written with F.T. Burke, took him across four continents through 26 countries in 1970-1971. Now, on the Golden Anniversary of his adventure, Steve Reifman – or “Stevie Wander,” as he likes to be called – tells the true tales behind the story.
